| Solgar Biotin 1000 mcg, 100 caps
Biotin is a water-soluble B vitamin that is also known as Vitamin H.
Biotin is often recommended for strengthening hair and nails. Consequently, it is found in many cosmetic and health products for the hair and skin.
It is found in oatmeal, egg yolk, soy, mushrooms, bananas, peanuts, brewers yeast and many organ meats. Biotin is also produced in the intestine. It acts as a coenzyme in the metabolism of protein, fats, and carbohydrates. Biotin deficiency symptoms include depression, dermatitis, hair loss, anemia, and nausea. Biotin deficiency can be caused by long-term antibiotic use, use of anti-seizure medications, alcoholism, inflammatory bowel disease, and diseases of the stomach. Most diets provide between 3070 mcg per day, and this, combined with intestinal production, appears to be adequate for preventing deficiency symptoms.
Biotin and Hair Loss
The signs and symptoms of biotin deficiency include hair loss which progresses in severity to include loss of eye lashes and eye brows in severely deficient subjects |
